Larapinta Dutch Oven Dumplings!

We had this oh-so-yummy dessert on The Larapinta Trail in June!

Maybe you would like to give it a go next time you are camping- all you need is an open fire and a Dutch oven. (It can also be made on the stovetop in a regular saucepan!)

INGREDIENTS

Syrup

1 cup water

½ cup white sugar

2 Tbsp golden syrup

1 Tbsp butter

Dumplings

2 tbsp Butter

1 cup SR flour

1 egg

¼ cup milk

METHOD

Place all the syrup ingredients in the Dutch oven and slowly simmer while you make the dumplings.

To make the dumplings:

Rub the butter into the flour.

Stir in the egg and enough milk to create a stiff dough. Add the milk in small additions so the dough doesn’t become too stiff and tacky.

Roll the dough into the portion size of your choice, about eight pieces.

Place the dough balls into the simmering syrup. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes, or until cooked through.

Serve with Cream or custard.
