Waterfall Walk4BrainCancer Hike!

by Michele

This was a very special hike not only because it provided so much diversity - but the charity is very dear to us.

This was the last in our Half Day Spring Series - and was always going to be special.

We were blessed with great weather conditions as eighteen intrepid Diamonds joined us for this hike. It started off easy enough, down the single bush track toward Camp Coutts - but then it got just a bit more technical as Michele decided on taking the lesser travelled scenic (?) route - which involved some very steep rocky scrambles to get to the top of Mount Westmacott. It was well worth it as we marvelled at the glorious views extending to the city in one direction and down to the Illawarra in the other.

Back down we went, then time to give our legs a stretch along the undulating fire trail for a couple of kilometres - until we entered the bush again on The Mooray Track. This meanders through Heathcote National Park, passes magnificent Angophora Gums, lush ferns, Banksias and Grevilleas into the Mooray Gully, joining the Bullawarring Track along Heathcote Creek. Soon enough we were at the popular Kingfisher Pools to enjoy a much-needed break - a hot drink and of course the famous Diamonds morning tea spread!

Only one brave soul (Ali) decided to test the waters and have a rockpool plunge, while the rest had a lovely time relaxing, listening and watching the water tumble down the little waterfalls and through the rocky platform.

As much as it was tempting to stay and relax, we packed up and continued along the Bullawarring Track - up another steep bush track and back to where it all began.

This was a very special hike not only because it provided so much diversity - but the charity is very dear to us. One of our clients, Jennifer, has been the brave face going through the unrelenting treatment and remission cycle for several years – achieving such great things when she is well – like the 50 Km Oxfam Trailwalker last year - soldiering on displaying outstanding resilience when it gets tough.

We are proud, thanks to all the participant, to have raised $850 for Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.

Thank you also to all of you who couldn’t make the day but still donated to the foundation.
