Sydney Harbour - a different view!

Seeing the sunrise and moonset on Sydney Harbour from the water in a double Kayaks is certainly something amazing!

We were looking forward to this one more than ever, as it was postponed from the month before due to inclement weather.

We weren’t so excited about the 4.30 am wake up – still, you do what has to be done! And if we wanted to be on the harbour to catch the sunrise it had to be done.

Everyone was on time, we met our guides from Eagle Rock Adventures, kitted up and into our double kayaks we hopped, with our paddling buddy.  There was a feeling of being quite dwarfed next to the giant navy ships berthed next to us. A few minutes to get accustomed to the craft and we made our way into Sydney Harbour!

To the west looking at The Harbour Bridge and The Opera House it was still dark enough to be treated to the full moon and twinkling lights- and to the east looking towards South Head- the sun was making its way over the horizon. Back and forth we looked- taking pictures this way and that, as the sun rose, and our surroundings got lighter. Andrew, our guide, had some interesting titbits of information about the history of the area- and we paddled along the Botanic Gardens and around Fort Denison...taking in the million-dollar views on the world’s most beautiful harbour.

Alas, time to return- but not too disappointed as by now we were all very much looking forward to coffee and a delicious hot breakfast served to us at Poolside Café up in the gardens.

Fuelled up and ready for Phase 2… a quick stroll to Circular Quay and on the ferry to Watsons Bay.

Our harbourside hike began with us heading north towards South Head to do a loop that takes in Camp Cove, Lady Bay Beach (yes, got a glimpse at a couple of nudies), Hornby Lighthouse, and the Gun Emplacements. From here, we we hugged the coastline from Watsons Bay through the pretty Parsley Bay and over the suspension Bridge, to Neilson Park and along the Hermitage Foreshore Walk enjoying peaceful bays, hidden beaches and uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour. Strickland House provided a great spot for a break and morning tea overlooking the harbour. This is one of Sydney’s most scenic coastal walks in Sydney- loads of nature in this preserved stretch of bushland with amazing city views.

Eventually we made it to Rose Bay, so back on the ferry to take us back to the Quay and where it all began….8 hours earlier.
