Hiking to the summit of Mt Barney!

 by Lucy and Clare

It was our 3rd attempt but finally, we were on our way to the sunny Scenic Rim.

After a long wait due to COVID interruptions, we headed for an adventure I will never forget. It began with a lovely warm-up summit of Mount Gillies, returning as the sun was setting giving us a stunning view of Mt Barney. Back to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings at our Mt Barney Lodge.

Friday provided us with a lot of fun as we walked The Portals, rock-hopped along the river bed, and braved the cold water for an exhilarating wild swim.

And finally, the summit day. Relentless ascent on challenging terrain, heights, exposure, and all types of rock scrambling before arriving after 6 hours at the top. I will never forget the pride I felt in watching each of you achieve such amazing feats - the Mt Barney summit is not for the faint-hearted that's for sure.

The Diamonds do Mt Barney ... 2 peaks & the Portals.

by Lucy

Off to Barney did 8 diamonds go

What challenge awaited they did not know.

Met by Innes, and guided by Nate

Tracey made sure that they all ate.

Together they truly put on a show.

A warm-up on Gillies

To test out the fillies

They made their first peak

To learn what to tweak

While Nate took charge of the billies

The Portals on Day 2

Sure tested a few

The rocks were a treat

With a swim in the heat

And OH what a view

In the wee hours of Day 3, they set out

To climb & conquer without a doubt

With laughter and fear

They let out a cheer

On top of Mt Barney with no one about

The way up was tough

The way down was rough

The Team was one

The challenge was done

By then they'd done enough!

Mt Barney was more than any of us expected.  Clare & Nate got us safely to the top & back down again but more than that, each diamond shone and together conquered fears they didn't know they had. Awesome weekend. Thank you Diamonds!
